Music is a big aspect in my life. I usually listen to techno/hip-hop “mainstream” type of music although these days I often go out of my genre. In school, I played the flute for 2-3 years and then switched to the alto sax to end up with the tenor sax during my final year of high school. You might agree when I say that the sound of band or even single instruments such as the sax is simply inspiring at times.
For example, during my last performance in band class, my friend Jean-Marc and I decided to improvise and it was so much fun! Even once the concert was done, we started up another song, completely improvised, and the whole crowd started clapping and dancing to our beat! It was such a great feeling.
You might be wondering why I’m talking about this. Well, as I said before, I’ve always love music. I didn’t really like “non-electronic” music until a few years ago. I remember being around a camp fire and hearing my friends play their guitars. I fell in love with that sound instantly. I told myself I wish I could play the acoustic guitar, not really believing I would ever have the time to learn or the patience. You see, when I was about 7 or 8 years old, I took piano lessons but I hated practicing and soon gave up. I often regretted not putting more effort at the time.
A few weeks ago, after attending a concert in which my friends sang and played different instruments, I decided I would give the guitar a shot. I picked it up and looked up some videos on YouTube. Yesterday, I went to a friend’s house so she could teach me a little more about the basics. Having friends can be very useful and encouraging when you share something in common.
Also, I’ve recently purchased a mixing board for DJing. You wouldn’t believe how much fun it is to play around with it as you learn to use its different functionalities and discover all the neat things you can do. Hopefully I’ll be able to make some money with my newly acquired skills and gear. If ever you happen to be hosting a party and you need a DJ, contact me and maybe I could end up being your DJ for the night!
Music being a big part of my life, I don’t see why I shouldn’t trying learning another instrument. It can also bring me closer to my friends either in many ways: going to their house to play together or maybe DJing at their parties. The acoustic guitar always attracted me; therefore, this will be one of my goals for the summer: learn to play the guitar! Along with DJing, judo nationals, camps and friends, this is what I’m doing this summer of 2012.
